I won’t retell the whole cruise story.
If you’re here, you probably already know the part that hurt the most.
My husband Tom left after 31 years of marriage.
My friends went to Italy without me because they decided I couldn’t “manage” without him.
Then they asked me to plan their next Mediterranean cruise anyway.
And when they eventually replaced me with a 34-year-old woman, Cassie looked across the dinner table and said:
“Margaret, look at yourself. Your face looks tired. Your neck, your jawline… you just don’t look like yourself anymore.”
I hated her for saying it.
But that night, standing in front of my bathroom mirror, I realized something.
For almost two years, I had been taking care of everything except myself.
That was the part of the story I didn’t tell them.
